We are living through strange times. Everything is faster.
Everything is optimised.
Everything wants our attention.
Images are generated in seconds.
Words appear before anyone has had time to think them.
Algorithms learn what we like and give us more of it until we no longer know if we actually like it. Meanwhile, the hand is becoming suspiciously unnecessary.

We disagree.

PLANET TIVOLI is a small resistance movement founded by two artists, Alexander Stutterheim and Jon Kastell.
We paint raincoats by hand.
We make objects slowly.
We work with weather, paint, rubber, wool, spray cans, stains and things that refuse to behave exactly as intended.

We are interested in the human trace. A brushstroke made by an actual hand. A line that shakes slightly. A knitted sweater that took someone days to make.
A coat painted in a room where somebody was tired, happy, angry or thinking about something else.
We use technology. We are not idiots. But we don’t want technology to remove everything that makes us human: boredom, patience, intuition, clumsiness, obsession, touch, doubt and the strange little accidents where new things tend to appear.

PLANET TIVOLI is our answer.
So we started painting.
Raincoats. Rubber boots. Sweaters. Bags. Paintings.
Objects not yet decided.
